Baazaar Movie Review: Watch The Trailer

Image
PC: Free Press Journal "Bada aadmi banna hai, toh line cross karni hogi" Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Chitrangada Singh, Radhika Apte Directed By: Gauravv K Chawla Genre: Thriller Have you watched the trailer of Baazaar? If yes, you already know what's coming. If no, I suggest you'd rather watch just that. Either the film is too predictable for my taste or a film like Andhadhun has set my expectations way too high. It is such a letdown! Chitrangada Singh and Radhika Apte were grossly underutilized. Saif Ali Khan tried his best within the situation he was thrown in; that still didn't save this sinking ship. Newcomer Rohan Mehra did a great job at flaunting his dimples at regular intervals, did not work for me though! I do not understand the need for songs in a thriller film, especially when they do nothing to take the story forward. They sure did their bit in making the viewing experience a little more annoying. The film had so much potential wit...

Badhaai Ho Movie Review: Badhaai Ho Bollywood!!!

Image
PC: Indian Dilwale "Tere naam ka chapega ab akhbaar mein" Cast: Sanya Malhotra, Ayushmann Khurrana, Neena Gupta, Surekha Sikri, Gajraj Rao Directed By: Amit Ravindernath Sharma Genre: Comedy, Drama How would you react if your soon to be retired father told you about a soon to be born chota mehman ? It's unimaginable, isn't it? I was compelled to watch this film after the most intriguing trailer of 2018 was out. The story is about a typical middle-class Delhi family who goes through a not so conventional situation. I loved the fact that the casting was done with tremendous effort and smartness. Yaar it's Khurrana's year, first Andhadhun and now Badhaai Ho. The dadi (Surekha Sikri) was definitely the hero of Badhaai Ho apart from the script. Her one-liners are something to look forward to.  The film is extremely real on the depiction of Dilli ke log , the situation, and the consequences that follow. On one hand, Namaste England had a huge...

Namaste England Movie Review: Mallika Dua Steals The Show

PC: Siasat "Duniya aaj bhi ek hi cheez pe kayam hai ... jiski wajah se duniya kayam hai ... pyaar" Cast: Parineeti Chopra, Arjun Kapoor Directed By: Vipul Amruthlal Shah Genre: Romance, Drama I genuinely feel it's high time Bollywood thinks ahead of the pehli nazar mein pyaar  and clichè ways of showing how women are repressed in the society. Jasmeet (Parineeti Chopra) has only two goals in life - one is to settle in England and the other is to marry Param (Arjun Kapoor). They meet, fall in love, and get married over a song. The rest of the film is all about how Jasmeet will do just about ANYTHING to get residency in England. Because of this, we were put through 2 hours and 20 minutes of utter crap. I felt like some writers think the audience is naive so they churn a story around anything and everything. There are a few funny moments but overall you can laugh at the film and not with it. I'm one of those who loved Arjun and Parineeti's chemist...

Helicopter Eela Movie Review: Kajol, You Beauty!

Image
PC: The Indian Express "To mothers and their dreams" Cast: Kajol, Riddhi Sen, Neha Dhupia Directed by: Pradeep Sarkar Genre: Drama When the trailer is pretty good, the director is even better, and it stars Kajol in the lead - you can't blame me for having high expectations.  Kajol looks fabulous and did a great job! But Helicopter Eela failed to hold my attention because of a poorly written script.  I did feel the concept of being a 'helicopter' mom was a tad exaggerated.  Amidst trying to play Jaya Bachchan from K3G (who sensed whenever her son was close), living and reliving her passion for singing, dealing with a husband whose family has a history of men lasting only up to the age of 40, and being Helicopter Eela - the crux of the film was completely lost. I was expecting a complete family drama where there'd be entertainment and roona-dhoona .  For the hardcore Kajol fans, this won't be all that disappointing. I just c...

LoveYatri Movie Review: Nepotism? What's that?

PC: Dailyhunt " Pyaar ek sim card ki tarah hota hai, woh kisi bhi phone mein perfectly fit ho jaata hai. Chahe woh phone mehenga ho ya sasta." Cast: Aayush Sharma, Warina Hussain, Ram Kapoor, Ronit Roy Directed By: Abhiraj Minawala Genre: Drama, Romance Special thanks to Salim Khan, Sohail Khan, and Arbaaz Khan. Produced by Salma Khan and Salman Khan Films. Stars Aayush Sharma, Salman Khan's brother-in-law. Why didn't Malaika do an item number? Just because Arbaaz and her have parted ways? That's unfair! I don't know who nailed the 'confused' face better, me or Aayush Sharma. 90% of the film he had a question mark on his face and 100% of the time I questioned my decision to allow my husband to drag me to this one. Whatever I write about newcomer Warina Hussain will be more. Even Ram Kapoor and Ronit Roy couldn't save this doobti hui naav . The attempt was to make a hardcore love story. Neither did the references made to Bolly...

Andhadhun Movie Review: Book Your Tickets Blindly!

Image
PC: mid-day "Andha hone ki problems toh sabko pata hai, fayde main batata hoon." Cast: Ayushmann Khurrana, tabu, Radhika Apte, Anil Dhawan Directed By: Sriram Raghavan Genre: Thriller How would you like to watch a film that unfolds itself with every passing scene? Best feeling, isn't it? Andhadhun is a thriller that can be watched by sitting comfortably in your seats. Along the way, you'll find yourself laughing, gasping, and suffocating.  The film is so quick paced that it won't give you time to stop and do any kind of guesswork. There is a lot happening, but not more than you can process. Anything I write here may be termed as a 'spoiler'. Raghavan's screenplay and direction is the hero of the film. I can't imagine anyone else who could have pulled off the Ayushmann's character. Another brilliant performance in his kitty. I think for the first time, Radhika did a film and did not steal the show! Tabu ...

Sui Dhaaga Movie Review: Tailor-Made For The Masses

Image
PC: IBTimes India "Sab badiya hai" Cast: Anushka Sharma, Varun Dhawan, Raghubir Yadav, Namit Das Directed By: Sharat Katariya Genre: Drama I do not remember a film where there was no evident line of division between the 'supporting' cast and the lead. Sui Dhaaga is simple, heartwarming, and to the point. The film is a kind that holds you by your hand and takes you with it. The natural transition of moving from failure to success in Mauji and Mamta's personal and professional life was written and performed brilliantly. The only thing that irked me was Anushka's inability to shed a few tears on the many occasions that she 'breaks down'. The cast and crew of Sui Dhaaga have managed to put the thread through the needle's eye in the first attempt! This one should not be missed.
